This is the dinning area of the condo in Maui, this is what it looked like before Mike worked his magic on it this past December.

IM000332

This is a look at the condo kitchen before Mike's magic....not bad, right?...just wait until you see how it looks now, it is a real WOW!

IMG_1546

Note the solid maple cabinets and the granet counter tops, tumbled marble back splash as well....what I can't seem to find a picture of is the new floors Mike put down, 20" travertine tiles the color of sand....LOVELY, and the best part, they replaced those awful white tiles with white grout that could never be cleaned enough to actually look white!...OH, did I mention that during the remodle, Mike got rid of a partition wall, adding another 30 inches of cabinets and counter tops...making the kitchen much more functional.

We spent 3 weeks in Maui over the Holiday season and had a ball.  Got to know my daughter in law Yukiko, Doug has chosen well, she is a lovely girl and we are very happy to welcome her into our family...I will have pictures of her in the next update, I have to learn how to scan pictures and upload first...you all know what a technophobe I am!...LOL

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and will enjoy the best Year ever!

Boy, the time just flies by, doesn't it? I have continued to be crazy busy, but this is good, I prefer to be be busy than not.
Lets see, what is happening?.....

Doug's fiance Yukiko made it safely to New York and we are to meet her for the first time in December when they will join us in Maui for part of the holiday season.

Sarah is busy with Cheer and bringing her grades up, so far, so good....

Chris is doing very, very well with his honors classes, we got his first quarter grades and he has mostly A and B's, actually, the only C he had was in PE....so what, the kid is a thinker, not a runner, I think I can live with that.

Mike has finished my kitchen and it is awesome, if I could just figure out how to upload pictures onto my Mac Book I would show it to you....RATS!...we are planning out the renovation on the Condo where poor Mike will go and do it by himself for 9 days before me and kids join him for Christmas break.

As I said....I am crazy busy, but I love it, things are going well...GOD is GOOD.

It's been another long stretch since I updated....lets suffice it to say that I have been CRAZY BUSY!

Let me preface all of this by reminding you all that GOD IS GOOD! Remember my post about how upset I was about that insurance company that had wasted my time on the program I tried to help them build?....Well, it looks like, as usual, God was directing me in another direction.
While I did not get to finalize the program with THAT insurance company, I have been allowed to implement my "program" with another insurance company, as the insistence of an employer who LOVES me and what I do for their injured employees. It seems that the employers were excited about the program I had tried to get off the ground, so excited, that they informed THEIR insurance company that I was to be given leeway to get atuthorizations for early testing and referrals to specialists as i saw fit. It didn't hurt that this employer is THIS insurance companies BIGGEST client....GOD IS GOOD!
The kicker? The program works, really really works...and I got to launch it MONTHS before that OTHER insurance company did, they still aren't ready to launch it, because....DRUMROLL....they are finding that it doesn't work very well with a telephonic nurse, DUH!
I am so thrilled that it was as I envisioned it, the thing that makes this work is the relationships built between the nurse, doctor, patient, claims examiner and employer....relationships are hard to forge over the phone....you think?
***************************

In other news, my son Doug's "sort of wife" is due from Japan on 10/12, and we will get to met her on 12/28 when they join us in Maui for the Holidays...they will be coming to CA for Christmas, so Doug can introduce Yukiko to his Dad' and the rest of the family, but since I will already be in Maui, I will not get to meet Yukiko until 12/28, I am so excited about this....I CAN"T WAIT!

So, how are all of you?

I really haven't fallen off the face of the earth....it just seems like it!

Only have time for bullet points:

  • My BIL Paul has gotten his wife into counseling...YAY.
  • Chris loves middle school, had brief incident in which he and a kid had an "altercation" in PE, the kid punched Chris in the face, Chris shoved him on his butt....Chris got 3 days of having to eat lunch in the office, and the kid got suspended for 3 days....Chris says the kids in PE no longer pick on him now that they know he can defend himself.  He is doing great in all of his classes, PE was the only class he was having problems in, and now that seems to be behind him.
  • Sarah is still not doing well, she is on her second course of medications....man I hate it when the kids get sick!...On a funny note, yesterday at about 7:30 PM I gave Sarah her new Rx of cough syrup because she was coughing up a storm...I forgot to read the lable that said to take it "at bedtime"....Sarah says that she was doing homework, and the next thing she knew she woke up with her face on her notebook amid a big pile of her own drool..it was 3:45 AM!....OK, I know that I am nurse, but the kid could have read the lable herself, right?....that is the story I am sticking to!
  • Now Mike is down with this crap, he is now on meds as well.
  • I having been running like a crazy person....I had one of the employers I do cases for ask me if I would be the "dedicated" nurse for their company....we are talking about a company that employs over 5000 people!....just as I was considering this, I get an email from the Referral source I have been getting the cases for this employer from, upset with me because they feel that I have "undermined" their relationship with the employer?!?!!! WTF?  I had no idea what they were talking about, until the employer calls me to fill me in....apparently they are very, very happy with my work, but feel this referral source "ties my arms" by not responding to my requests for authorization for treatment on a timely manner.  I have to send at least 3 to 4 emails to get answers to questions, I always cc the employers (ER) when I do this.  Apparently what the referral source was really upset about is that it had come to the ER's attention that they were not following up promptly and as far as the ER's were concerned, I was the only one "on top of things"  Apparently this has made the referral source look bad, and rather than ask me how we can streamline communication, they chose to "kill the messenger".  The ER's were not happy when I read them the email I had received....the referral source told me not to forward the ER's the email (they didn't say anything about reading it to them!...LOL), now I am in the middle of a tug of war....the ER's want me and only me to be the nurse for their injured employees, and the referral source does not want me because I make them look bad...just because I want them to do their jobs and do it in a timely fashion....GEESH, I hate it when people don't take pride in their work....am I really that unusual?...The ER's say that of the 2 dozen or so nurses they have worked with, I am the only nurse that they can count on to get what trier employees need...I find that a sad comment on the nursing profession!

So, how are you all?

New week, new drama!

Lets see....Mike and Chris went on a full day fishing excursion yesterday with Uncle Charlie and Uncle Paul.....no fish was caught, but great fun was had by all 4 guys on this male bonding over tackle and line and poles....all was well until Uncle Paul went to the airport to pick up his wife who had been away for the weekend in San Fran to visit her over the top Gay brother....the words "Drama Queen" do not do him justice....Pauls wife L is also a DQ, only not as severe....have we mentioned that Paul can't stand his BIL, nothing to do with his Gayness, just that he is a true A hole.
Anyway, wife L comes back with major drama re her brother, as is always the case and Paul mentioned that he did not want to deal with the BIL drama, at which point L shoved her wedding rings in his face in informed that her brother was a part of her life and if he was not going to at least be supportive, then he did not truly love her....mind you that L does this crap at least 3 to 4 times per year, in the 8 years they have been married...the only difference this time is that Paul did not go running after her, but called me and asked me "as a woman" did L do this because she wanted him to run after her, should he do so again?....I told him to only do it if he was willing to live with all this drama the rest of his life, at which point he said he was sick to death of it, and so I recommended he drive home and allow L to get her ass back home the best way she could....he did just that.....40 minuets later a hysterical L calls him while we are on the phone chatting and asks forgiveness for her actions and asks that he PLEASE come back and pick her up, I recommend to him to agree to do this ONLY if L will agree to go to couples counseling with him, which she has refused to do so far....see, he has been going alone for counseling and has learned to stand up for himself, finally!...so....we shall see! Paul, YOU GO BOY!

What else....OH yeah, Miss Sarah had her first football game in which she cheered this year, followed by a big sore throat that would not go away....I kept her home from school today and Mike took her to the Peds, she has a STREP, crap, here we go again, and it is not even mid September....have I mentioned how much I dislike cheer?!!!!...By the way, Sarah and I had a "girls day" yesterday while the guys were fishing. We went shopping for a couple of hours, had brunch out, and then came home and baked home made apple pies, using apples from our apple tree....the pies were YUMMY!...hopefully we did not eat a spoonful of STREP with each bite.....it remains to be seen....
